The Tamang Heritage Trail passes through honeycombed villages in the mid-hills that were damaged heavily in the earthquakes of April and May 2015. They have received attention and care and are rebuilding and are eager for the return of tourists.
Join us as we visit an area populated by the Tamang ethnic group which comprises over five percent of Nepal’s population. They have a distinct language, dress and traditions. Our specialist guides Durga Tamang and Ritu Gyamdan are originally from the area. They have been working hard on recovery for their areas and will provide the journey of a lifetime with both cultural and natural wonders.

Tamang are believed to have origins in Mongolia far to the north of the Himalayan Range, and many settled in Rasuwa District of this region as well as other areas throughout Nepal. Most Tamang follow Buddhism and Shamanism to some extent and practice ancestor worship as well.
The Tamang Heritage Trail is an all-season journey. The highpoint is a highland pasture known as Nagthali (3243 m, 10,640 ft) with sweeping views of the Himalaya soaring into the heavens.

Day 01Arrival at Kathmandu’s International airport (1350 m / 4450 ft)Welcome to Nepal. You will be greeted at the arrival area of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu's international airport by our representative and escorted to your hotel. Take time to refresh yourself after your international travel. The first evening is open to enjoy as you like, rest and relax at the hotel or explore the surroundings.
Day 02Full Day Tour, Sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley After a leisurely breakfast, our skilled guide leads a tour of Kathmandu Valley’s highlights and attractions, including magnificent World Heritage Sites of cultural and historical significance. After the tour, we will hold a pre-departure discussion with our Trek Leader and staff.
Day 03Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi (1417 m / 4,646 ft) We start our journey early in the morning and head north from Kathmandu valley through scenic foothills with lush greenery and terraced fields. The first leg of the drive to Trishuli Bazaar is quite smooth. The path then becomes more rugged as we rise to Dhunche where our permits are checked and then descend to Syabru Besi.
Day 04Trek to Gatlaang (2238 m/7340 ft) We pass through a serene valley with beautiful scenery as we climb up to the idyllic village of Gatlang. Along way, we pass through paddy fields and Buddhist mani walls. Gatlang is a large, attractive Tamang village with slate roof homes. It was damaged heavily by the earthquakes of April and May but it is on the way to recovery and residents will be very happy to have visitors.
Day 05Trek to Tatopani (2607 m/ 8550 ft) The route passes down through mani walls and then up through a remote valley with distant views of the snowy Keylong Range in Tibet. Tatopani is a peaceful settlement with one of Nepal's finest hot springs waiting for you to take a rejuvenating soak.
Day 06Trek to Nagthali (3165 m/10,380 ft) Today we pass through remote areas with our best chance to see wildlife on our way up to a high pastureland with a panoramic viewpoints of the Himalaya. The high elevation meadow is home to a small monastery. After leaving our packs at the lodge, we take a side trip to the magnificent viewpoint of Taruche.
Day 07Trek to Timure (1762 m/5780 ft) We descend through forest down to Thuman with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape and Langtang peaks. The route then follows up the Bhote Kosi River Valley. We overnight at the village of Timure with a lively bazaar area, small monastery and large stupa. This evening or tomorrow morning we make a visit to an ancient fort at the border with Nepal and the Tibetan Frontier.
Day 08Trek to Briddim (2229 m/7312 ft) We return back down the river valley, which has been a trade route for centuries between Nepal and Tibet. Eventually we make a final climb to the large village of Briddam, splendidly set among terraced fields. There is a monastery and cave to explore near the top end of the village.
Day 09Trek to Syabrubesi (1417 m/4646 ft)The trail passes a ridge and travels through a serene forest of pine as we descend down to our trek starting point Syabrubesi. It will be a pleasant last day on the trail with breathtaking views of the gorgeous valley.
Day 10Drive to KathmanduWe take an early morning departure on a tourist bus to Kathmandu passing through scenic fields and villages along the way to the ancient capital of the Himalaya. The rest of the time is available to explore the city on your own, search for souvenirs for friends and loved ones back home, and relax and enjoy yourself after the high elevation trekking. In the evening we will enjoy a farewell dinner together.
Day 11Transfer to the international airport for your final departureOur representative will escort you to the airport for your departure back home. We are sure that you will have enjoyed the experience and our services. As you travel to your own country, hopefully you will remember us and Nepal very fondly. Farewell friend.
